 THE POLLACK | The Pollack is a greedy fish and often swims right up close to land to find food. That is why it is often seen in large shoals by land and can be fished using a fishing rod from the pier. The Pollack has three dorsal fins and two anal fins. The dark green line is covering the breast fins.
THE MEAT | The meat is slightly darker and softer than cod
SIZE | The Pollack becomes 130 cm long. The Pollack is normally between 30-90 cm when it is caught. Like Saithe it is smaller close to land and the Pollack that breeds out on the sea is bigger.
DEPTH | The Pollack is both at the surface of the water as well as on the bottom down to 200 meters depth.
COLOUR | The Pollack is olive-green and dark brown at the back. Sharp shift in colour is towards the lighter silver colour on the sides. It is white under the stomach.
CHARACTERISTICS | The Pollack is smaller than Saithe, however it is fatter. One difference is the stripe, which is more uneven. Another difference is the goth, which is further to the front of the fish. The Pollack has a characteristic underhung jaw.
