 COMMON DAB | The Dab has 65-81 dorsal fin rays and 50-64 anal fin rays. Lateral linescales 73-90. The Common dab is mainly caught by-catch and marketed as fillets.
SIZE | The Dab (Common) can grow to become 40 cm, however it is seldom more than 30 cm. DEPTH | It breeds on sandy bottoms, from a few metres to about 100 meters.
COLOUR | Eyed side often with small rusty-red spots. CHARACTERISTICS | The light and straight line and the dark colour.
FOOD | Mainly crustaceans and small fishes. REPRODUCTION | Spawns from January to August; larvae settle at depths of 10-20 meters. WHERE TO CATCH IT | The Common Dab breeds in the eastern Atlantic, from Bay of Biscay to White Sea, also Iceland. See also map below.
