Shorthorn sculpin

Shorthorn sculpin | The Shorthorn sculpin does not have much industrial importance, however it is caught by Sea Anglers in the Faroe Islands.
All its fins are big, except its ventral fins. It has two dorsal fins. The head is big and broad, and the fish is rather thick around its belly and more thin further back. Its eyes are medium size and the jaw is big.

SIZE | Around the Faroe Islands the females are not bigger than 32 cm, and the males are maybe a bit smaller. Usually the Shorthorn sculpin is around 15-25 cm.

DEPTH | The Shorthorn sculpin breeds inshore and around 250 meter out on the sea. Normally on rough bottoms.

COLOUR | The Shorthorn sculpin is brown, yellow/brown with spots. On the sides and under its belly it has changing colours. Sometimes light greenish colours. Above its pectoral fins it sometimes has dark spots and white spots. Under its belly the female have an orange colour, and the males are reddish. Both females and males have white spots.

CHARACTERISTICS | The stripe is flat, and its dorsal fins sit closely together.
