Flounder

FLOUNDER | The Flounder breeds very close to land, and is often caught close to the shore. The Flounder has one dorsal fin. The stripe is a bit bended above the pectoral fin. It has small pectoral fins and small ventral fins. It has points at the anal.

SIZE | The Flounder can grow to become 60 cm, but is usually not more than 30 cm.

DEPTH | The Flounder is close to the shore out to about 25 meters depth. It is also caught at 100 meters depth. Sometimes it moves to rivers, however it is mostly at the sea.

COLOUR |
The Flounder's colour changes with the bottom. Mostly it is dark brown with reddish spots randomly spread around on its dark side. The fins are sometimes a bit reddish. On its white side it is mostly milky-white.

CHARACTERISTICS |
Caught very close to land. The dark colour is characteristic and it is easily differentiated from the Plaice.
